Aubrieta | au-Bree-tuh | Rock Cress
Rockcress is a sturdy native of the harsh, rocky slopes that flow into the Mediterranean Sea. They thrive in the ricky outcroppings found there with quite lean, sandy soil. All are mat-forming and produce brilliant sheets of bright color in late spring and early summer. Success in the garden means that the native conditions be faithfully reproduced - and this means the rock garden in New England. We think the color is better when the plant can be sheltered from the harsh midday sun. All aubrieta will benefit from a precise shearing (scissors work well) after flowering is complete.
