Dennstaedtia | den-STAY-tee-a | Hayscented Fern
Dennstaedtia is a deciduous fern, native to large areas of North America - from Nova Scotia in the east, Minnesota to the west and south to Georgia.
It spreads rapidly and, for that reason, some will consider it invasive. And, if planted in a cultivated, planned garden, it will be. Located in an area that needs a fast growing, durable and adaptable - not to mention quite attractive - plant, hayscented fern turns criticism to asset. Because it spreads by rhizomes that become matted, the colonies provide very effective weed control. It is tolerant of less-than-perfect soil types and is happy in sun or shade.
