Plainview Farm :: Ferns :: Osmunda :: Osmunda
Osmunda | oz-MUND-ah | Various Common Names
Osmunda, from a genus of about 12 species, is found in many parts of the world and is always a dramatic specimen. As garden plants, the deciduous osmunda prefer a constantly damp, highly acid soil, but is highly adaptable if perfect conditions aren’t available. However, all will perform at peak when generously watered. Their adaptability is such that they will grow in shade or partial sun. A curiosity: orchids are grown in the fibrous rootstock of osmunda (remember “In the Heat of the Night”?).
