Equisetum | eck-wis-SEE-tum | Horsetail
Horsetail is one of the oldest plants on earth - which should tell us something about it’s tenacious nature (hardy to zone 3!).
It is a genus of approximately 25 species of plants that thrive in water or in bogs. They are distributed fairly widely in the northern hemisphere. Some are evergreen.
Due to it’s invasive tendencies, we plant horsetail in containers that are sized to accommodate the final clump-size we want. This helps maintain some order in our environment.
These are unusual plants that make a contemporary - yet ancient - statement in the garden.
