Plainview Farm :: Perennials :: Echinacea-Gypsophila :: Echinacea
Echinacea | eck-a-NAY-sha | Coneflower
Our native coneflower is THE prerequisite plant for those who love a cottage look or who want to create a meadow planting. These are easy, rewarding plants to grow. Expect seedlings, but don’t be shy about lifting them with your trowel and moving them to a more acceptable location. They won’t mind if you do. Don’t want seedlings? Deadheading will help. Pinching stems back in June will delay flowering a few days. Expect them in late July in splendid combination with liatris and phlox. Space them 18-24".
New are the fabulous orange and yellow varieties (and many shades in between) that have been hybridized within the past few years. Among many other new ones, the Big Sky series has caused lots of buzz in the hort community. This series, from Itsaul Nurseries in Georgia, feature strong, floriferous plants that offer fresh new colors to an old favorite perennial.
Obviously, we think they are special.
We think home gardeners will love them, too.
