Plainview Farm :: Perennials :: Hedera-Iris :: Iberis
Iberis | eye-BEER-iss | Perennial Candytuft
This European native serves as a small evergreen shrub in many gardens. It is easy to prune into
formal hedge shapes, if needed, but the natural habit of the plant is pleasing, as well. We have seen it used as the edging for a formal herb garden.
The shining
white flowers bloom reliably with the lilacs in late spring and help showcase other spring flowers
in the border. Late tulips and iberis are an excellent match.
Many species grow in Spain, whose classical name was Iberia, and thus, their botanical name.
Deadheading after flowering (use hedge shears) will improve the plant immensely. This is a great
complement to the traditional foundation planting as it looks good all year long. Iberis is a versatile
and easy-to-grow, evergreen perennial that makes all gardeners look good! Space 18 inches
