Our portable GreensBox lets you grow your food wherever and whenever you choose!
All lettuce, salad greens and mescluns prefer cool weather. When the heat of summer arrives, they usually “bolt” (begin to produce seed) or simply stop growing. Greens thrive in spring and fall. A GreensBox extends the season. Read on.
In spring, your GreensBox will grow well in a sunny area, but as summer approaches, it is best to limit the amount of direct sun. When hot weather finally arrives (above 70 degrees), move your GreensBox to a sun-protected location, where light is available, but where harsh direct sunlight (more than 3 hours) can be avoided.
Water your GreensBox routinely, as you would do for any vegetable, maintaining consistent moisture and never allowing the soil to dry out.
We recommend using Jack’s Water Soluble Fertilizer (available here at the Farm). This is an excellent fertilizer, used by professionals. Follow the directions on the package.
We fertilize the GreensBox twice per week. At this rate and with this product, you will see superior results.
Because we use weed-free soil, weeding will not be necessary.
The produce in your GreensBox can be harvested at any stage of growth desired by the chef. You may cut your greens down to 2” and still expect regrowth. We plan to harvest three separate cuttings. But, with proper care, four separate harvests won’t be a surprise!
After harvests, remove any dead or disfigured leaves from your GreensBox. This will help keep your soil and the new growth healthy.
When it is time to return your GreensBox, please cut any remaining foliage to soil level.
We will recycle the soil for your next crop.
